THE GIBBEDUM PROJECT

A collaboration of four emerging Indigenous artists - Mark Sheppard, Tanya Mead, Helah Milroy and Irma Woods - to develop a contemporary dance piece as a step toward creating an independent Aboriginal Dance Theatre in Perth.

Themes to be explored during the project revolve around identity and the expectations Aboriginal people may have of the "new Australia" being put forward by Governments and committees. Where are Aboriginal people taking their culture? Where is their culture taking them? What is Aboriginality?

Stylistically, the piece will use sensuality, silence, stillness and how quickly a status quo can change.

The work will focus on the relationship between contemporary and traditional dance, but will become a multi-media production through the use of poetry, photography, theatre, dance and contemporary music.

WHALOO IS THAT YOU?

Yirra Yaakin’s new Children’s production by the same creative team that that brought you DJILDJIT & BOOYI KOORA KOORA.

The Whaloo stories are like the Pilbara itself...vast, vibrant and full of secrets.

Using contemporary theatre practice, traditional instruments and dance, Yirra Yaakin presents three delightful yarns bigger than the land itself.

Yirra Yaakin breathes new life into an ancient culture and it’s stories, introducing Aboriginal language, Culture and land management to the students. All performances offer the teachers a comprehensive educational package with activities to complement the Curriculum Framework for Kindergarten through to year 7.

Can Whilarra the Moon keep an eye on Goodamundoo’s eggs? Will she really help Old Man Mangrove escape with all the animals on the equinox tide?

We will rubbiley your Jubbelies and tickle your Ants until you find out.
